How to Type Turkish Characters
The modern Turkish alphabet is based on the Latin script but includes 6 unique characters with diacritics: ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş, ü (and their uppercase equivalents Ç, Ğ, I, Ö, Ş, Ü). If you are using a standard US or UK QWERTY keyboard, you might find it difficult to type these letters.
How to use this tool:
- Click into the text area above and start typing with your physical keyboard.
- Whenever you need a special Turkish character, simply click the corresponding button on the screen.
- You can toggle between lowercase and uppercase letters using the Show Uppercase button.
- Once you are done typing, click Copy to copy your text to the clipboard and paste it anywhere (e.g., in an email, social media, or a homework assignment).
Why are these characters important?
In Turkish, missing a dot or a cedilla can completely change the meaning of a word. For example:
- kar means "snow", but kâr means "profit".
- hala means "father's sister (aunt)", but hâlâ means "still" or "yet".
- sık means "often" or "tight", but şık means "stylish".
Using the correct characters ensures your Turkish is easily understood and grammatically correct!
