Grammar

Comparative & Superlative

Comparative Adjectives (Üstünlük Sıfatları):

Comparatives are used to compare two nouns. In Turkish, this is done using the word daha (more) before the adjective.

To express "than," the noun being compared to is put in the Ablative case (-den / -dan / -ten / -tan).

Structure: [Noun1] [Noun2 (Ablative)] daha [Adjective].

  • Example: Bu ev daha büyük. (This house is bigger.)
  • Example: Ali, Ayşe'den daha çalışkan. (Ali is more hardworking than Ayşe.)
  • Example: Elma, portakaldan daha tatlı. (The apple is sweeter than the orange.)

Superlative Adjectives (En Üstünlük Sıfatları):

Superlatives express the highest degree of a quality ("the most" or "-est"). This is formed using the word en (most) before the adjective.

  • Example: Bu en büyük ev. (This is the biggest house.)
  • Example: En çalışkan öğrenci kim? (Who is the most hardworking student?)
  • Example: Türkiye'nin en yüksek dağı Ağrı Dağı'dır. (Turkey's highest mountain is Mount Ararat.)
