Grammar & Culture Notes
Culture
Taksit
Paying in taksit (monthly installments) on a credit card is extremely common in Turkey, even for clothes. Sales staff routinely ask Tek çekim mi, taksitli mi? — 'in one payment or in installments?'
Grammar
Bu gömleğin mavisi
Bu gömleğin mavisi = 'the blue one of this shirt'. A color adjective can act as a noun with a possessive ending: kırmızısı (the red one), büyüğü (the big one). Note gömlek → gömleğin (k → ğ).
Grammar
Polite offers: isterseniz
Denemek isterseniz (if you'd like to try it on) uses the conditional -se/-sa. Shop staff and waiters use isterseniz all the time to make offers sound polite.
