Grammar & Culture Notes
Grammar
Polite requests: istiyordum
Randevu almak istiyordum is literally 'I was wanting to make an appointment'. The past continuous makes a request softer, like English 'I was hoping to…'. It's very common on the phone.
Culture
İyi çalışmalar
İyi çalışmalar ('good work') is the standard goodbye to someone who is working — receptionists, shopkeepers, colleagues. Görüşmek üzere means 'see you then' when you have arranged to meet.
Grammar
Saying phone numbers
Turks read cell phone numbers in groups: 0532 415 22 67 → sıfır beş yüz otuz iki, dört yüz on beş, yirmi iki, altmış yedi. Practice saying your own number this way.
