  1. Derya

Üniversite bittikten sonra ne yapmayı düşünüyorsun?

What are you thinking of doing after university?

  2. Barış

Not ortalamamı yüksek tutabilirsem yurt dışında yüksek lisans yapmak istiyorum. Özellikle Almanya'daki teknik üniversiteleri araştırıyorum.

If I can keep my GPA up, I'd like to do a master's abroad. I'm looking especially at the technical universities in Germany.

  3. Derya

Harika bir hedef! Ben ise hemen iş hayatına atılmak istiyorum. Birkaç şirkete şimdiden staj başvurusu yaptım.

That's a great goal! I want to start working right away. I've already applied for internships at a few companies.

  4. Barış

    Hangi alanda çalışmak istiyorsun?

What field do you want to work in?

  5. Derya

Pazarlama alanında. Eğer istediğim gibi bir iş bulamazsam, kendi küçük dijital pazarlama ajansımı kurmayı düşünebilirim.

Marketing. If I can't find the kind of job I want, I might think about starting my own small digital marketing agency.

  6. Barış

Bu çok cesur bir plan! Ama bence başarırsın.

That's a really bold plan! But I think you'll make it.

  7. Derya

Sağ ol. Peki sen Almanca biliyor musun?

Thanks. And do you speak German?

  8. Barış

Biraz. Bu yaz yoğun bir Almanca kursuna yazılacağım.

A little. This summer I'm going to sign up for an intensive German course.

  9. Derya

    Umarım ikimiz de hedeflerimize ulaşırız.

I hope we both reach our goals.

Grammar & Culture Notes

  • Grammar

    Real conditions: -(y)sA

Yüksek tutabilirsem (if I can keep it high) and bulamazsam (if I can't find) combine the ability form -(y)ebil- / -(y)eme- with the conditional -se/-sa. This is how Turkish talks about possible futures.

  • Grammar

    After …: -DIktAn sonra

Üniversite bittikten sonra = 'after university ends'. Attach -dıktan/-dikten/-duktan/-dükten sonra to a verb stem to mean 'after doing'. The opposite is -madan/-meden önce (before doing).

  • Culture

    Staj and studying abroad

Turkish university students often do staj (internships) over the summer, and many programs require them. A yüksek lisans (master's) abroad is a popular goal — Germany especially, because public universities there charge little or no tuition.
