Interrogative Adjectives

Interrogative adjectives (soru sıfatları) ask about a noun: which one, how many, what kind. They come directly before the noun, and like all adjectives they never change form.

Key Rules:
- Kaç + singular noun. Just like numbers, kaç is followed by a singular noun: Kaç elma var? (How many apples are there?) – answer: Üç elma.
- Kaç vs. ne kadar. Use kaç for things you can count and ne kadar for amounts: Ne kadar süt istersin? (How much milk do you want?) Ne kadar alone also asks the price: Bu elbise ne kadar? (How much is this dress?)
- Hangi vs. hangisi. Hangi needs a noun (Hangi kitap? – Which book?); hangisi stands alone (Hangisi? – Which one?). See Interrogative Pronouns.
- The noun takes the endings. Hangi kitabı okuyorsun? (Which book are you reading?), Hangi şehirde yaşıyorsun? (Which city do you live in?)
- No question particle. The question word already makes it a question, so do not add mi.

- Ne iş yapıyorsun? (What do you do for a living?)
- Kaç kişi gelecek? (How many people will come?)
- Kaç yaşındasın? (How old are you?)
- Hangi otelde kaldınız? (Which hotel did you stay at?)
- Kaçıncı sırada bekliyorsun? (What number are you in the queue?)
Common Mistakes:
- ✗ Kaç elmalar? → ✓ Kaç elma?
- ✗ Hangisi kitap? → ✓ Hangi kitap? ("Which book?")
- ✗ Hangi kitabı okuyor musun? → ✓ Hangi kitabı okuyorsun?
- ✗ Kaç süt? → ✓ Ne kadar süt? (milk is uncountable)
